One of the notably hardest things about making friends in today is navigating how to talk to people. I recently sat with some of my younger family and was just casually listening to them talk and was surprised to realize they only ever talk about other people — there were no common interests or even topics they could debate about. The same people who were loud together became meek when they couldn’t talk about other people. It was weird. I think there’s a lot of shifts in culture that causes this. Without tv you don’t have a singular event everyone is invested in — if you didn’t watch Stranger Things all at once we can’t talk about it. Or books that everyone has to read etc.
Thanks for this insight, it was a good read
